The canvas softens and pales; the leather darkens and hardens. A few years in they meet in the middle. Washed and distressed before it ships, so it starts somewhere past new.

Brass that will outlast the bag it is fitted to
Twin straps across the front on solid brass buckles, with a brass roller buckle on the shoulder strap and swivel clips at both ends so it comes off entirely when the bag is carried by hand. Brass does not flake the way plated steel does. It goes dull, then someone polishes it, and it starts again.
