Handmade Leather Shoulder Bag
A miniature leather trunk, 22 centimetres wide, with brass rivets at all eight corners and a zip running the whole way round. Big enough for a wallet, a phone and a paperback, and it gets asked about.

A steamer trunk, shrunk to the size of a hardback
Corner caps, a wraparound zip and a rolled top handle — the proportions of luggage from when luggage was built to be repaired rather than replaced. At 22 by 15 by 10 centimetres it is not luggage at all. It holds a wallet, a phone, keys and a paperback, and it is the sort of thing that gets asked about when it is put down on a table. Which is most of the job a gift has to do.
22 × 15 × 10 cm · leather · wraparound zipReinforced where a case like this actually wears
Eight leather corner caps, each riveted through, in the same warm brass finish as the zip pull and the D-rings. The zip runs the whole way round rather than stopping at the sides. Corners are the first thing to go on a hard-sided bag — they take every knock against a doorframe and every scrape off a table edge. They are the part that has been built up here, which is a decision you only notice years later.
Eight riveted corner caps · brass-finish hardwareA top handle for the walk, D-rings for the day
The rolled leather handle is stitched along its length and sits flat against the lid when it is not being held, so the case stacks and stows like the luggage it is modelled on. On both ends there are brass D-rings for a shoulder strap — the strap specified for it adjusts between 100 and 115 centimetres. Small enough to sit on a lap on a train, structured enough that it does not slump when it is set down.
