Brushed metal, with the weight that implies
Staunton pattern in cast alloy, one side brushed copper and the other brushed silver — or black and silver, or gold and silver, depending on which you choose. The brushing catches light along the turned collars rather than reflecting it, so the board reads as matte from across a room. Metal pieces sit where they are put and do not tip when the table is knocked. It is a different game from plastic.

Burl veneer for the light squares against walnut for the dark, with a fine black inlay running the border and chamfered corners on the case. A drawer slides out of the side onto a felt tray die-cut to the shape of every piece, so the set puts itself away in the order it came out and nothing rattles when the board is carried.
